MagLoop Display at the SPARC Fest 2014 Leamington Ontario Swap VE3UK Magnetic Loop
This was the second annual swap for the Sun Parlour Amateur Radio Club (SPARC), and my second year as an exhibitor showing my MagLoop brand. In this video, operators took their crack at checking into the Intercon and Marine Mobile Service nets on 14.300Mhz using only 10 watts from an SGC SG-2020 into MagLoop's HFH32 32" magnetic loop antenna on a 7 foot high tripod. Every time the NCS in Texas said we were at least a S7 or S9 and commented once that he couldn't believe we were running only 10 watts with a small loop at 7 feet. At the mic in this clip was Dan VE3XQ who is our local member of CFARS, the Canadian equivalent of MARS in the USA just 30 miles north of the border.

VE3UK's latest addition to his MagLoop Line of Magnetic Loop Antennas.
Просмотров 7 тыс.9 лет назад
As the creator of the "MagLoop" brand, here is my latest magnetic loop antenna. This antenna is 32 inches in diameter, rolled in 1.5" aluminum, and sports our own "trombone" style capacitors allowing this antenna to handle in excess of 5KW. This antenna will tune continuously from 14.000 Mhz to 29.000 Mhz. This is a short video clip of my son Mason VA3SG testing out the loop by checking into th...
Variable Capacitor Butterfly Style Plates Great for a Home Brew Magnetic Loop
Просмотров 80 тыс.10 лет назад
Hi, I am Bob VE3UK from Pyramid Machinery which is the parent company of MagLoop and Monarch Capacitors. Today I am giving a brief introduction on how you can easily make your own butterfly style variable capacitors using the plates the I produce using CNC Laser technology. To get an idea of how many plates you may need for a given required capacitance maximum, please visit my Monarch Capacitor...

Dual Rate PWM 0V to 6V DC Magnetic Loop Controller
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.11 лет назад
This is a short video showing the basic final assembly of our PWM 0 to 6 volt DC controller that we use with our Magnetic Loop (MagLoop) antenna capacitors. Each rocker switch can be set to its own independent voltage. One would be a high voltage (3 to 6 volts) for fast QSY and the other to a very low voltage (below 1V) for slow QSY or fine tuning. Additionally, when you release the rocker swit...
Small indoor Magnetic Loop on 17 Meter SSB
Просмотров 4,4 тыс.11 лет назад
This is a short video of my contact today into Florida, using my SGC SG-2020 with about 15 watts output and my indoor 32" magnetic loop antenna. This antenna is made from 1" aluminum tube and my butterfly capacitor design. I will work well from about the 12 meter band to the 30 meter band. Last night I was knocking off 30M CW contacts left and right and receiving 579 through 599 reports. This a...

Просмотров 13 тыс.11 лет назад
This is a short video of my contact today into Serbia, using my SGC SG-2020 with less than 20 watts output and my indoor 46" magnetic loop antenna. The math works out about 324 miles per watt seeing that YT1AA is 4,865 miles from my QTH. If you are interested in Magnetic Loop antennas and would like to learn more please visit our user group at www.MagLoop.com, Or contact me directly by email or...
40 and 20 SSB QRP Contacts with a Magnetic Loop antenna indoors
Просмотров 13 тыс.11 лет назад
Here is another brief demo of me (VE3UK) using my 46 inch magnetic loop antenna indoors on the ground floor of my home. The first contact was from my QTH Lakeshore, Ontario to New York State on 40 Meter LSB, and the second QSO was to the State of Florida on 20 Meter USB. Both contacts were made during a period when the band propogation was not the best, in other words band conditions were very ...
46" Magnetic Loop and SGC SG-2020 40 Meter QSO QRP
Просмотров 9 тыс.11 лет назад
Here is a brief demo of me (VE3UK) using my 46 inch magnetic loop antenna indoors to check into the Trans Provincial Net on 7.055 LSB. I received 59 reports. All contacts were with in the province ranging from 100 to 300 mile distances. Not exciting, or rare DX, but for only 15 watts with an indoor loop, I am happy. In addition, the band was not in the best shape. If you would like to learn mor...
135 pF Variable Butterfly Capacitor for a Magnetic Loop Antenna

10" HV Butterfly Capacitor for my 20 through 40 meter magnetic loop
Просмотров 11 тыс.12 лет назад
Well I am back at it... Here is the rotor that I just assembled for my 20 through 40 meter magnetic loop... This capacitor will be the biggest one I have built to date. It consists of a dozen 10" plates. The plates are spaced 1" apart and when interlaced with the stators, they rotor and stator plates will be 1/2" apart... This should provide me with enough voltage handling to run far beyond the...

The major weakness is that of the capacitor. To tune the antenna, I simply spin one of the capacitor plat...

What is the benefit of this butterfly style over a half disc shape style ? A design with 3 or even 4 fixing points on one plate would be much more straight an stable by nature !

That...is genius. I would not have thought of that capacitor is a million years, which is stupefying because it looks exactly like the schematic symbol! I don't understand everything - gamma match - is it about trying to match the antenna impedance with the feed line? Also, why a flattened shape as opposed to a 360 loop??

Hi. If one wanted to position the plates much closer together, could you use some plastic film between the conductive plates to prevent them from shorting. Would the plastic film affect the integrity or general function of the variable capacitor in any way ? >

i have used clear coat spray paint with success on variable caps that arced in their lifetime, the application was in a 1kw lineer amplifier Plate cap, sanded the culprit down, assembled and sprayed the lot, never looked back since.

Cool radio. I have an FTdx3k on my desk and want a rig for my truck. Your vid made me decide to buy this one. I do wonder what the blinking LED indicates. It would drive me nuts. If I had to I'd cover it with tape. Or disconnect it if it didn't mean anything useful to the way I'd operate the rig. 73 OM
